welcome to editorial discretion!!!!!

Hello! I’m Rachel Summer Cheong. I write here about books, art, fashion, and the internet. I did my undergraduate studies at Harvard in the History of Art and Architecture and my law degree at Yale. Fortunately or unfortunately, I never used the latter, as I worked after law school as an illustrator and teacher. (Ahahaha! That was a very silly decision, although surprisingly—even surprising myself—not one I have come to really regret, except while forced to make small talk at weddings.)

That was in my twenties. Now I’m thirty-one and writing essays, fiction, and reviews. My ambition here is to have fun, think harder, and make some internet friends who care about the same things I do. Perhaps you are in the same boat, perhaps in an entirely dissimilar nautical situation… Whatever the case, welcome aboard!

This newsletter collects the topics I would talk with you about if we were kind-of friends and you came over to my house but then!!! I suddenly realized that I could really talk to you and felt a growing possibility that we were actually going to be best friends forever. And we had a wonderful day together and we thought, gosh, this is so special. But then we were separated by tragic circumstances and all conversation between us had to happen via the exchange of funny and essayistic letters, possibly due to some kind of brain virus that rendered us unable to communicate in any other manner.

I hope that adequately describes the tenor, i.e., vibes, of this newsletter. Thank you for following me down here while I gave you hypothetical brain damage just now. I look forward to exchanging thoughts on matters both pragmatic and sentimental.

If you would like to join me for discussions of art, literature, internet culture, fashion, and some faffing about re: the humanities writ large, please share your email below.

I appreciate your interest in reading things, possibly including this thing. It is a great quality of yours.

Affectionately,
Rachel
